Celebration of International Mother Language Day 2021

On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, ECDO arranged discussion and Education materials distribution program on 21st February, 2021. The program was held at Manipuri Cultural Complex, Adampur Bazar, Komolganj Upazila, Moulovibazar. After the performance of National anthem of Bangladesh in Manipuri language by the students of Mongolpur Manipuri Language Center (MLC), the Executive Director of ECDO, Lakshmikanta Singh delivered a welcome speech. The program was presided over by Mr. Indrajit Singha, chairperson of ECDO. Mr. Jayanta Singha, Convener of Manipuri Cultural Complex, Mr. Birendro Singha, President of Bangladesh Manipuri Cultural Association and Kunjarani Singha, Bangladesh Manipuri Primary Teacher’s Association were also present as guest in that event. Moreover, Poet Shonaton Hamom, Ebunghal Singha Shyemol, Secretary of Manipuri Language Research and Development Organization and Assistant Primary Teacher Brinda Rani Debi also delivered their valuable speech in that program.

The guest emphasized the importance of preserving the script and language of Manipuri community along with all indigenous languages in Bangladesh. They said that the government should consider indigenous people’s demand for protecting their language and script. However, the program was ended with the distribution of education materials (Manipuri book named Manipuri Londam Lairik, notebook, pen, pencil, cutter, eraser and scale) among 104 Manipuri students of Bhanubil Majhargaon MLC, Mongolpur MLC and Hoktiyarkhola Primary School. It should be mentioned that the student of Hoktiyarkhola Primary School are newly considered for education materials distribution after discussing with ECDO.
