Tree plantation program on the occasion of World Environment Day, 2021
Environment plays an important role in healthy living and the existence of life on planet earth. Earth is the home for different living species and we all are dependent on the environment for food, air, water, and other needs. Therefore, it is important for every individual to save and protect our environment. In the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Member States including Bangladesh express their commitment to protect the planet from degradation and take urgent action on climate change. In line with this, ECDO has been working devotedly for environment protection and halting the adverse effects of climate change since its inception.
Every year, ECDO arranges rally, seminar and discussion session on the occasion of world environment day. Amid the corona virus pandemic, the theme of the 47th World Environment Day is “Ecosystem Restoration” that aims is to prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems on every continent and in every ocean. This year, ECDO has arranged tree plantation program on the occasion of World Environment Day on 5th June, 2021. This tree plantation program was held at Hazi Mohammad Shafique High School located at Kushighat of Sylhet Sadar upazila. Abdul Karim Kim, environment activist and the member of the Central Executive committee of Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon (BAPA) was attend as guest on this program. A brief discussion meeting was held presided by Md. Shariful Hossain, president of the School management committee in the school premises. Mr.Lakshmikanta Singh, Executive Director of ECDO, Abdur Razzaque, Headmaster of the Hazi Mohammad Shafique High School delivered their speeches on the theme of World Environment Day. Moreover, Assistant teacher Sujata Roy, Umme Khadija Tahmina, Latifa Yasmin, Sharmila Das and on behalf of ECDO Murshida Rahman, Pronoy Singha and Monihar Singha were also present on that program.
After discussion session, the guests planted different local species fruit saplings such as mango, guava, jackfruit, olive, palm etc. in the open spaces around the school. The school authority thanked to ECDO for organizing such nice event in their school premises.
