Education Materials Distribution Program of ECDO
Ethnic Community Development Organization (ECDO) has supported Manipuri children of Kamalganj Upazila with different education materials under the project of Education Support for Marginalized Children and Promoting Manipuri Language (ESMCPML), which is supported by HEI VERDEN, a Norwegian Development Agency.
In mid September, the infection rate of COVID-19 has dropped to 7.46 percent, so the Government of Bangladesh has declared for reopening all educational institutions across the country from 12th September after almost one and half years. By considering the government’s decision, ECDO has also started all educational activities of Education Support Center (ESC) and Manipuri Language Center (MLC) again. As schools are now open, these marginalized children of ESMCPML project are in need of various education materials such as notebook, pen, pencils, eraser etc. In line with this, on 15th September, 2021, ECDO distributed different education materials along with face masks and umbrella to 85 primary students studying in ECDO’s established Mangalpur and Bhanubil Majhargaon Manipuri Language Centers (MLCs).
It should be mentioned that, Brinda Rani Singha, a Manipuri teacher of Hoktiyarkhola Primary School has established Manipuri Vasha Proshikkhion Kendro (Manipuri Language Learning Center) in 2019 on her own initiative at Kamalganj Upazila. She has contacted with ECDO very recently for supporting the students of her center with education materials, as the parents of those students were facing problem to manage their children’s educational expenses due to COVID-19. So, considering the overall aspect and from humanitarian point of view, ECDO distributed education materials to 27 Manipuri children of her Manipuri Language Learning Center.
In continuation of distributing education materials, on 18th September, ECDO also supported 75 disadvantaged and marginalized children of Alaibahar, Doldoli and Lackatoorah ESC with education materials. ESC and MLC teachers, members of center management committees, local people, local representatives and guardians were present at the program.
Guardian and children were very happy after getting such education materials and children were very joyful as schools are now open and they can meet with their friends and teachers after long time of school closure. Guests present on that program also thanked ECDO for providing face masks to these marginalized children so that they can use these masks while attending centers and schools. At the end of the program, all the members present in the program thanked HEI VERDEN through ECDO for supporting these marginalized children in such pandemic situation, otherwise it wouldn’t be possible for them to buy education materials and continue their sturdy. Finally, it is very good news in this pandemic situation that till now, no students of our ESC and MLC drop out from school due to the shortage of education materials.
