Project Launching Program of ECDO

Ethnic Community Development Organization (ECDO) celebrated a significant milestone on April 22 with the inauguration of the “Community Development through Local Volunteer Initiatives” (CDTILV) project. Held at the conference room of Sylhet Sadar Upazila in Sylhet, the launch marked the beginning of a pioneering effort aimed at fostering grassroots empowerment and sustainable progress.

Ms. Nasrin Akter, the Upazila Nirabahi Officer (UNO) of Sylhet Sadar Upazila, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Mr. Lakshmikanta Singh, the Executive Director (ED) of ECDO, presided over the program. Among the distinguished guests were Mr. Abhijit Kumar Paul, Upazila Secondary Education Officer, and Mr. Md. Abdul Ahad, Upazila Youth Development Officer, who attended as special guest. The event also welcomed representatives from the local tea-labor and Patro community, reflecting the project’s grassroots orientation.

Ms. Tasnim Chowdhury, the project coordinator of ECDO, provided a comprehensive overview of the CDTILV project. She emphasized the collaborative efforts between trained community facilitators and local communities to identify challenges and co-create sustainable development strategies. The project aims to foster ownership and resilience within the community through capacity-building and empowerment.

Chief guest Ms. Nasrin Akter underscored the importance of self-reliance and community involvement in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She commended ECDO’s initiative and urged active participation from all relevant community members, pledging her support to the cause.

Guest speaker Md. Abdul Ahad, Youth Development Officer, shared insights into youth empowerment and vocational training initiatives. He highlighted government programs aimed at providing vocational training to underprivileged youth and encouraged interested individuals to seek assistance.

Mr. Abhijit Kumar Paul reiterated the government’s commitment to education, mentioning scholarship opportunities for impoverished students and offering support in educational matters.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Lakshmikanta Singh emphasized the significance of recognizing and nurturing individual strengths for personal and community development. He encouraged attendees to embrace self-confidence and utilize their abilities for collective advancement.

The program was skillfully conducted by Ms. Nongpoklai Sinha, Coordinator of ECDO, and Mr. Pronoy Singha, Finance and Administrative Officer of ECDO.
