Tree Plantation Program
On 20 May, 2026 Ethnic Community Development Organization (ECDO) organized a day-long tree plantation program in different areas of Sylhet an effort to promote environmental protection and encourage community participation in climate action. As part of the initiative, near about thousands of saplings of various fruit-bearing and forest trees were distributed among Patro men, women, and students in Varerhat Patro Village under Khadimnagar Union of Sylhet Sadar Upazila. Responding to the requests of local Patro women, ECDO also distributed more than one hundred betel leaf plant saplings alongside the fruit and forest tree saplings this year.
In addition to activities within the Patro community, ECDO planted various fruit-bearing, forest, and flowering trees at Abdus Samad Chowdhury Memorial Academy and Airport High School.The program was attended by the Executive Director of ECDO, Lakshmikanta Singh, as the chief guest. Speaking at the event, Md. Fakhar Uddin, Head Teacher of Hazi Abdus Samad Memorial Academy, emphasized the importance of trees in maintaining a healthy environment. He stated that the more trees there are in the environment, the healthier people can live, and thanked ECDO for organizing such an important initiative at the school.
Meanwhile, Humon Ahmed Chowdhury, Head Teacher of Airport High School, mentioned that under ECDO’s previous year’s plantation program, several fruit and forest trees, including five litchi trees, had been planted on the school campus and had already started bearing fruit this year. He highlighted that there is no alternative to tree plantation for a healthy life and encouraged students to plant more trees in their home surroundings. He also expressed gratitude to ECDO for arranging such a meaningful and environmentally significant program.Addressing the gathering, ECDO”s Executive Director Lakshmikanta Singh noted that ensuring proper care and maintenance of planted trees is even more challenging and important than planting them. He urged all concerned to take responsibility for nurturing the planted saplings to ensure their healthy growth.It should be mentioned that through ECDO’s tree plantation activities organized in different locations, more than a thousand fruit-bearing and forest trees were planted and distributed.
Among others present at the event were ECDO Coordinator Nongpoklai Sinha, Finance and Admin Officer Pronoy Singha, Project Coordinator Tasnim Chowdhury, Assistant Coordinator Momtahinur Rahman Chowdhury, and Project Officer Monihar Singha.
