International Human Rights Day Celebration by ECDO

Ethnic Community Development Organization (ECDO) organized an event to commemorate International Human Rights Day, 2024 at Sharoda Hall in Sylhet city. The event was held under ‘Leadership Development of Tea Labor Women Worker on their Rights’ project, supported by Oxfam and European Union (EU). The program featured a rally and a discussion session with active participation from tea labor community and members of civil society. Over 300 people joined the rally, carrying festoons and placards displaying various demands of the tea laborers. The discussion session had distinguished guests, including Md. Masud Rana PPM of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) as the chief guest. Other prominent speakers included Advocate Ashok Purkayastha, President of Sylhet District Bar Association; Advocate Emad Ullah Shahidul Islam, former President of Sylhet District Bar Association and Advocate Sayeda Shirin Akter, Divisional Head of Bangladesh Women Lawyers Association. Ms. Nongpoklai Sinha, Coordinator of ECDO, delivered the welcome speech, and the session was presided over by Mr. Lakshmikanta Singh, Executive Director of ECDO. Representatives from the tea garden labor union, tea labor women leaders, and other civil society members who support the tea labor community also attended the event. This year’s theme, “Our Rights, Our Future: Right Now,” resonated strongly with the participants. More than 350 individuals attended the event, which concluded with a drama titled “Sobuj Brikhkher Nil Kosto.” The drama highlighted the rights of tea labor community, leaving a powerful message for all present.
