Knowledge Fair of ECDO
On December 19, 2024, Ethnic Community Development Organization (ECDO) organized a Knowledge Fair at Airport High School in Sylhet. The event was held under ‘Community Development Through the Initiative of Local Volunteers’ project, supported by Global Fund for Children (GFC). The program brought together various community members and guests, including Professor Dr. Tahmina Islam, Department of Social Work at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Mr. Avijit Kumar Paul, Upazila Secondary Education Officer, Sylhet Sadar Upazila, Mr. Apurba Lal Sarker, Upazila Agriculture Officer, Sylhet Sadar Upazila and Ms. Nazma Parvin, a renowned cultural activist.
The event presided over by Mr.Lakshmikanta Singh, Executive Director of ECDO. The program began with a report presentation on various topics initiated by local youth and the tea worker community following SALT (Support, Appreciate, Learn, Transfer) approach. Right after that a story telling session of community participants and an open forum discussion also held. Following the discussion session, a Friendship Football Match was held between Doldoli Tea Garden Girls’ Football Team and the Airport High School Girls’ Team.
During the event, Professor Dr. Tahmina Islam highlighted the uniqueness of ECDO’s initiative, emphasizing that if it is spread across society, it could play a significant role in improving the living standards of disadvantaged people in the country. Cultural activist and spoken word artist, Ms. Nazma Parvin, shared her perspective, saying, “We should not only think about our own development but also about our neighbours and other ordinary people. Therefore, it is very important for everyone to develop themselves as a humanitarian person.”
Mr. Lakshmikanta Singh, Executive Director of ECDO, expressed, “Instead of thinking about what I lack in my personal life, I should focus on what I have and try to use that to contribute to the development of myself and society.” The event concluded with a friendly football match, where Doldoli Tea Garden Girls’ Football Team emerged as the champions. Later, Mr.Lakshmikanta Singh, along with the attending guests, presented trophies and medals to the winning team.
