Free Blood Grouping Campaign Reaching 500 Tea Garden Community Members

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2026, Ethnic Community Development Organization (ECDO) successfully organized a Free Blood Grouping Campaign at Dolodoli Tea Estate and Kewachera Tea-Garden of Sylhet. The program was inaugurated by Mr. Lakshmikanta Singh, Exectuive Director of ECDO. The campaign reached 500 participants from Dolodoli, Kewachera, and Hiluachera tea gardens, providing them with prompt result. This initiative was supported by ECDO and implemented by Cha Shromik Nari Mancha, Sylhet A tea-garden women networks consisting by 600 women’s tea worker formed through ECDO’s facilitation.

Demonstrating strong grassroots leadership, women leaders from the network played a central role in organizing and mobilizing the community. Their active participation highlighted the growing strength of women-led initiatives in addressing critical health needs within marginalized communities. In this campaign Shreya Sinha,Shraboni Sinha, Shumi Nayek,Shobita Nayek, Kushum Das played the role of volunteer and Tasnim Chowdhury, Project Coordinator of ECDO, Pronoy Singha,Finance officer of ECDO and Momtahinur Rahman Chowdhury Assistant Programme Coordinator of ECDO supervised and monitor the whole program activities.  Through this campaign, participants were able to learn their blood groups many for the first time enhancing their awareness and preparedness for medical emergencies. The initiative also emphasized the importance of basic health knowledge as a key component of overall well-being.

One participant, Rupamoni Das from Dolodoli Tea Estate, shared her experience, “Recently, I needed blood during my pregnancy and reached out to community members. However, due to the lack of information about our blood groups, it was very difficult to arrange blood. That’s when we realized how important it is to know our blood group.”

Her story highlights the real-life challenges faced by tea garden communities and underscores the critical importance of such initiatives.This activity of ECDO stands as a powerful example of how community-driven action, particularly led by women, can create meaningful impact. It further reflects ECDO’s ongoing commitment to promoting health access, gender equality, and community empowerment in tea garden areas.
