Political Chief of U.S Embassy visited ECDO activities
On May 8, 2024, The U.S Embassy in Bangladesh representatives led by Ms. Sharyn C.Fitzgerald, Political Unit Chief at the Embassy of the United States in Bangladesh, accompanied by Mr. Firoze Ahmed, Political Specialist at the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka, visited Manipuri Language Centre (MLC) of ECDO at Bhanubil Majhergaon, Kamalganj, Moulvibazar. Upon their arrival, Ms. Sharyn C. Fitzgerald and Mr. Firoz Ahmed were greeted with enthusiasm by the students of Manipuri Language Centre (MLC). The Manipuri Children welcomed them with flowers and traditional gestures, symbolizing their gratitude and eagerness for the visit.
Mr. Lakshmikanta Singh, Executive Director of ECDO, commenced the session by providing a comprehensive overview of ECDO’s mission, objectives, and ongoing projects. He emphasized ECDO’s commitment to serving marginalized and disadvantaged communities, particularly in the context of linguistic and cultural preservation.Mr. Lakshmikanta Singh highlighted the challenges faced by the Manipuri language, which is an endangered one. He elaborated on ECDO’s initiatives aimed at addressing this issue, including the establishment of the Manipuri Language Centre (MLC) and the publication of Manipuri language textbooks.
Ms. Sharyn C. Fitzgerald actively engaged with the children, expressing her admiration for their participation in ECDO’s educational programs. She took the opportunity to interact with them, asking about their experiences. Her genuine interest and encouragement were well received by the children and she expresses her admiration to the children.
Ms. Fitzgerald commended ECDO for its dedication to preserving the Manipuri language and empowering the local community.
