Education Materials distributed with the joint initiative of ECDO and SOS Children’s Village
On May 27, 2024, Ethnic Community Development Organization (ECDO), in Collaboration with SOS Children’s Village, Sylhet, organized an education materials distribution program at Airport High School, Sylhet. The event was designed to address the educational needs of underprivileged children while also emphasizing the importance of education and environmental awareness.
In this program, Mr. Avijit Kumar Paul, Upazila Secondary Education Officer, attended as Chief guest, while Mr. Lakshmikanta Singh, Executive Director of ECDO, and Mr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali, Project Director, SOS Children’s Village, Sylhet, attended as special guest. Ms. Tasnim Chowdhury, Project Coordinator of ECDO, Ms. Rubayath Ahmed, Programme Officer, SOS Children’s Village; Sylhet, Noor Asique Haque, Child Safeguarding Focal Person and Mr. Minhaj Uddin Sajib, President of Youth Council, SOS Children’s Village, attended the event. Mr.Humon Ahmed Chowdhury, Head Master, Airport High School, presided over the program.
The program started with the national anthem of Bangladesh, stirring feelings of patriotism. Right after that a warm welcome extended by Ms. Rubayath Ahmed of SOS Children’s Village. She expressed gratitude to all attendees and emphasized the significance of the initiative in supporting the educational endeavors of disadvantaged children.
Chief Guest Mr. Avijit Kumar Paul delivered an insightful speech, highlighting the transformative power of education in shaping responsible and intelligent citizens of Bangladesh. He emphasized the role of education in fostering critical thinking and ethical values. He urged the students to seize the opportunity and strive for academic excellence to contribute positively to the society.
Mr. Lakshmikanta Singh,Executive Director of ECDO, expressed ECDO’s commitment to empowering marginalized communities through education and socio-economic development initiatives. He mentioned the importance of collaborative efforts between organizations like ECDO and SOS Children’s Village in addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by underprivileged children.
Mr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali engaged with the children, sharing inspiring stories of resilience and perseverance from SOS Children’s Village, Sylhet. He reiterated the organization’s mission to provide a nurturing environment for orphaned and vulnerable children.
The program also featured a session led by the Youth Council of SOS Children’s Village, Bangladesh, focusing on environmental conservation and child safeguarding issues. The youth activist facilitated interactive discussions aimed at raising awareness about the importance of protecting the environment and ensuring the safety and well-being of children.
Finally, essential educational materials, including school bags and stationery items, were distributed to 120 deprived children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and the program ended with the speech of Mr. Humon Ahmed Chowdhury, Head Master of Airport High School. He highly appreciated for the joint initiatives taken by ECDO and SOS Children’s Village for the well being of marginalized children.
