Reshmi Patro – An example of a Bright Student
Reshmi Patro(12) is a very meritorious and punctual student, studying at class six. Her father, Bhiru Patro (32) is crippled due to a major brain stroke. This incident was happened two years ago and the lower part of his body became numb. He was the only earning member of her family. She is the eldest children of her parents; she has also another threeyounger siblings.
In this situation, her mother couldn’t’ understand what to do with her four children and physically sick husband. She started working as day labor to manage her family. It is very tough for her to manage the living cost of her family, in such situation, continuing her daughter’s education seems to her a burden. Rather than spending money for her education, if her daughter can earn money by working somewhere, it will be better option for her.
Reshmi Patro was a student of our Alaibahar ESC just one year back. She obtained good result in her final examination of class five and she is now studying in class six in a secondary school located near her village. As she is a brilliant student, she is now struggling to continue her education by any means.It should be mentioned that during her study at primary level ECDO have supported her with necessary education materials but later she is excluded from our project as per our project criteria. As ECDO provides education materials only for primary level student, Reshmi as the student of 6th grade, our existing policy do not permit to provide her any kinds of support. Lack of necessary education materials makes it almost impossible to continue her study. Reshmi is very worried that she will not be able to continue her secondary education. Although now ECDO is informally providing a little bit support for continuing her education. Reshmi and her mother requested ECDO to support for further education
