Organization Management Training for “Cha Shromik Nari Moncho”
On 9 January 2025, Ethnic Community Development Organization (ECDO) organized an Organization Management Training at its office for the Executive Committee members of Cha Shromik Nari Moncho, Sylhet, a women’s network from tea gardens formed with the facilitation and support of ECDO. The foundation-level, day-long training aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge of basic organizational management, leadership, and institutional practices to strengthen the effectiveness and sustainability of the platform.
Participants from Doldoli, Kewachera, and Hiluachera Tea Gardens actively took part in the training session. The program was attended by Ms. Shumi Nayek, President of Cha Shromik Nari Moncho, Sylhet, along with other members of the Executive Committee.The training was formally inaugurated by Mr. Lakshmikanta Singh, Executive Director of ECDO. The sessions were facilitated by Ms. Tasnim Chowdhury, Project Coordinator; Mr. Pronoy Singh, Finance & Admin Officer; and Mr. Momtahinur Rahman Chowdhury, Assistant Program Coordinator of ECDO. The facilitators covered key aspects of organizational structure, leadership roles, financial management, and collective decision-making.
At the beginning of the training, leaders of Cha Shromik Nari Moncho, Sylhet, shared their experiences of forming and managing the platform. They highlighted several community-based initiatives undertaken to improve the socio-economic conditions of women in tea gardens and their families.Ms. Shumi Nayek, President of the platform, mentioned that Cha Shromik Nari Moncho, Sylhet, is currently providing free sewing training to 30 women from Doldoli Tea Garden as part of its livelihood development efforts. The General Secretary, Ms. Dipna Das, shared that the platform has been extending financial support for the education of 10 students from Kewachera Tea Garden to promote access to education. Participants also discussed their collective efforts to ensure tea workers’ access to various government social safety net programs, including old-age allowance, widow allowances, maternity benefits, and disability allowances. They shared experiences of community-level advocacy and the steps taken to support eligible beneficiaries in accessing these entitlements.
The training concluded with a closing speech by Mr. Lakshmikanta Singh, Executive Director of ECDO, who emphasized the importance of strong organizational capacity, transparency, and collective leadership in sustaining grassroots women’s movements and advancing the rights and well-being of tea garden communities.
